ABOUT THE LECTURE
VR Nightsss is a virtual erotic poem. A few minutes of artistic animation with ASMR and interactive elements immerse the viewer in a sensual experience of poetry and dance. It originated with my spoken word erotic poem in Polish, in which sound mixes with the meaning of words, creating onomatopoeic, rhythmic and ASMR structure.
VR Nightsss is an attempt to transfer the sensual quality of the poem to the behaviour and form of the generated image, to the design of responsive sound and the choreography of the character, who you meet in virtual space. As a result, the immersant gradually opens up to exploring space and interacting with the environment, and activating his body in this process. It opens up to a sensual experience which, as shown by the first private live presentations, may even have therapeutic potential in pandemic time.
While working on the script and directing the experience, we built an interdisciplinary team, worked with leaders and VR specialists from Visual Narrative Laboratory vnLab in Lodz. In my lecture, I will talk about VR and the immersive experiences creation process. What we can bring to it from spoken word practice and performance art. How to write and create a sensual VR experience, and design immersive metaphors. How we combined dance with poetry in a VR environment. How has our previous research on immersion, perception of body and motion in VR and neuroscience reflection has influenced the VR Nightsss piece? In a case study of Nightsss, I will try to answer these and other questions related to the creative process of spatial medium.

Weronika Lewandowska – spoken word poet, director, writer, and executive producer of VR Nightsss. vnLab and VR/AR Studio collaborator since 2019. PhD in cultural studies, researcher of new media and immersion experiences. Lecturer of creative writing and transmedia art at the University SWPS and design trends at School of Ideas in Warsaw. VR Creative Consultant for BioMinds Healthcare XR system, which explores a new way for neurological rehabilitation. Art advisor for ARtz – the AR app for NFTs marketplace and exhibition. Artist in Residence of The Performing Art International Visegrad Fund in Prague in 2020 (360° Poetry Performance for CrossAttic/Bazaar Festival). Artists in Residence of the MCRUK (Network of Centers for Research Arts and Culture) Programme, Klibla2Lab (Association for Culture and Education, Maribor) in 2021. Holder of The Artistic Scholarship of the City of Warsaw for 2021.
In 2014-2016 she was a researcher in "+-brain. Cognitive Image of Dance” – the transdisciplinary study of dance perception in virtual reality (University SWPS research fund). Currently, in her artistic and research practice, she is focused on new media tools and immersive ways of expression that interfere with corporeality, embody presence, and have the potential to create non-binary digital stories. She is interested in perception, avatars creation, human voice and movement in virtual environments, the future of real-time live performances and neural input, haptic innovations for VR/AR/XR experiences, as well as the future of digital human rights.
